AmCham Hosts Monthly Meeting with Leaders of Mongolia’s Mining Sector
ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia – The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Mongolia hosted its April Monthly Meeting on Wednesday, April 20th, 2016 featuring three senior representatives of Mongolia’s Mining sector including G. Battsengel, CEO of Energy Resources LLC, Ch. Khashchuluun, Economist and Executive Director of Mongolia Oil Shale Association, and Ch. Otgochuluu, Chief Economist of Erdenes Mongol LLC and board member of Oyu-Tolgoi LLC.
The meeting convened over 60 participants including AmCham members and other private sector representatives who were able to hear directly from the leaders of Mongolia’s largest mining mega-projects through an in-depth panel discussion and Q & A session exploring the challenges facing Mongolia’s mining sector and ways forward.
Renowned Economist and Executive Director of Mongolian Oil Shale Association, Ch. Khashchuluun said, “Mongolia is finally moving beyond the mining sector alone and looking at the other sectors of the economy for growth.”
Chief Economist of Erdenes Mongol and board member of Oyu Tolgoi LLC, Ch.Otgochuluu said, “Erdenes Mongol is currently going through governance reform, which will increase our value if we manage the transition well.”
The CEO of Energy Resources LLC, G.Battsengel said that “We always focused on our investors and shareholders rather than marketing our company. What is happening at MMC at the moment is just a reflection of what is happening in Mongolia and what is happening in the coal sector globally.”
