Press Release – AmCham August Monthly Meeting with President Battulga
The President of Mongolia Battulga Khaltmaa meets AmCham members and foreign investors
ULAANBAATAR – The American Chamber of Commerce in Mongolia (AmCham Mongolia) held its August Monthly Meeting on 26 August 2019 in Blue Sky Hotel & Tower, and hosted the President of Mongolia Battulga Khaltmaa. President Battulga made a state visit to the United States of America at the beginning of the month and was warmly welcomed by President of the U.S. Donald Trump at the White House. Consequent to their meeting, the two nations signed to have a “Strategic Partnership”. Thus, AmCham September Monthly Meeting was held to discuss “Mongolia-U.S. Relations: Moving Forward with the Strategic Partnership”.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the ways the Strategic Partnership will benefit the two nation’s economic and bilateral relations. AmCham members, foreign embassy representatives, foreign investors, and the business community attended the meeting and asked various questions from President Battulga.
AmCham Mongolia’s Vice Chairman Gary Biondo delivered opening remarks and quoted, “We are honored to be hosting President Battulga at our meeting. AmCham is willing to assist and contribute in any way to fully implement and make use of the newly established partnership.”
The U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia His Excellency Michael S. Klecheski delivered a speech welcoming President Battulga and stated, “The U.S. embassy is a close associate of AmChams all over the world- they promote the free market system, economic prosperity, and private-led growth. We are thankful for that. The U.S. and Mongolia’s total trade revenue for 2017 and 2018 reached 130 million USD. Whereas in 2019, the first two quarters alone marked a total of 133 million USD, a 43 percent rise compared to last year. However, our trade peaked in 2012 reaching 707 million USD. Evidently, there is a lot of room for improvement and we are committed to actualizing that potential.”
President Battulga delivered an informative and promising speech. In his speech, he highlighted that there is extensive room for growth with the declaration of the partnership, and encouraged everyone in the business community to make use of the potential we have. He quoted, “The U.S. is truly a third neighbor of Mongolia, and we share many common values and goals. We need to particularly attract investment into the Mongolian economy. Given the U.S.’s extensive power, wealth, technological advancement, we have a lot to learn from our third neighbor. Stability and security are essential in reinforcing our good relations. Leveraging this opportunity for our own good, we must strengthen the two nation’s bilateral relations in all sectors.”
