AmCham Mongolia Certified Trade Mission 2019 – Press Release
AmCham Mongolia successfully hosts 2019 Certified Trade Mission
Ulaanbaatar- The American Chamber of Commerce in Mongolia (AmCham Mongolia) organized its annual Certified Trade Mission (CTM) for the third consecutive year on October 28-30, 2019. The Trade Mission is officially certified by the U.S. Department of Commerce and is co-organized by the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar. The CTM provides an effective way for American companies to explore business opportunities on the ground. The CTM is an efficient, highly focused approach to meet and start an initial exploratory dialogue. The interactions also represent an opportunity for limited partners and general partners to exchange ideas and strategies in an open, interactive forum.
The CTM allows American businesses to meet with potential agents, distributors, joint venture partners, licensees, local businesses, and government contacts to assess potential opportunities and identify challenges in doing business in Mongolia. The CTM also helps participating firms gain market information and identify potential local partners to develop business partnerships in Mongolia.
This year, CTM hosted five prominent American companies and nine delegates; Monsoon Blockchain Storage, The Boeing Company, Caterpillar, Wabtech Corporation and Dow Chemical Company. The CTM was led by Alan Turley, Deputy Assistant Secretary for China and Mongolia from the International Trade Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce.
On the first day, the delegation had various meetings with influential policy-makers and stakeholders. First they were hosted by the U.S. Ambassador H.E. Michael S. Klecheski, then by the Deputy Minister of Road and Transport Development L.Khaltar, and Chairman of National Development Agency Bayarsaikhan. AmCham Mongolia and CTM delegation had the honor of being hosted at the Government Palace and Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the Speaker of the Great State Khural of Mongolia G.Zandanshatar, and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs D.Davaasuren. The day was concluded by a heartfelt welcoming reception by the U.S. Ambassador H.E. Michael S. Klecheski at the Ambassador’s residence.
On the second day of CTM, the delegation had the honor of being hosted by the President of Mongolia, H.E. Battulga Khaltmaa and Chief of Staff to President Battulga Z.Enkhbold. The delegation met with AmCham Mongolia’s Board of Directors and also representatives from the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. While some of the delegates had individual meetings with their respective stakeholders, others attended Export Mongolia Conference and Exhibition 2019 where they had a brief panel discussion to advise Mongolians on exporting and expanding their businesses overseas. The day was concluded with a momentous AmCham October Networking Night.
During the meeting with President Battulga, the delegates explored various sectors that are fruitful and promising in Mongolia. President Battulga introduced the projects and policies he has been working on such as the railway from Ulaanbaatar to connect to Russian railways, boosting the export of Mongolian meat and the construction of Maidar City. The delegation consists of an industrial chemical company, railway and airway transportation company, and blockchain technology company- thus, the delegation discovered many ways they could collaborate with Mongolian businesses. During the meeting with President Battulga, Alan Turley quoted, “Since the Declaration of Strategic Partnership between the U.S. and Mongolia, the U.S. Department of Commerce has been vigorously working to expand our economic ties. The CTM is a crucial part of that effort, as we are directly looking to expand American businesses into the Mongolian market. AmCham Mongolia is an essential bridge to connect the two nations.”
