AmCham Mongolia Forms Mining, Infrastructure and Heavy Industry Committee
ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia – The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Mongolia convened the inaugural meeting of its new Committee in Mining, Infrastructure and Heavy Industry on April 13th, 2018. The aim of newly established Committee will be to support government efforts to develop the mining and heavy industrial sectors. One of the priorities of 2018 Roadmap for Growth is supporting a competitive mining sector of Mongolia which is the engine of the country’s economy.
The sector accounts for 20% of the country’s GDP and 90% of the country’s exports. AmCham Mongolia believes firmly that developing a responsible and competitive mining sector will create a strong foundation for economic growth and the country’s development. AmCham Mongolia members are major investors and suppliers to Mongolia’s mining industry. By sharing and showcasing our members’ best practices and successes, AmCham Mongolia will support the development of a competitive mining sector in Mongolia and will advocate for and support the creation of an effective and attractive legal and policy framework that ensures the investment necessary for the development of both existing and future mining projects.
AmCham Committee in Mining, Infrastructure and Heavy Industry is comprised of representatives of the industry’s leading companies that significantly contribute to the social and economic development of Mongolia. The Committee’s initial meeting held with representatives from the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry was to set priority actions for 2018 and discuss areas for potential mutual partnership. The priorities of MIHI Committee in the nearest future will be to work out recommendations to proposed draft amendments to the existing laws in the extractive industries and a policy-wise participation in the development of Mining Law. During the meeting the Committee members have elected with 100% vote Munkhbat Chuluun, President and Executive Director of SouthGobi Sands LLC, as a Committee Chair.
