ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia – The American Chamber of Commerce in Mongolia (AmCham) hosted a special members-only event on Friday, March 4, 2016, featuring Patrick Santillo, Deputy Assistant Secretary for China and Mongolia with the U.S. Department of Commerce, and Her Excellency Jennifer Zimdahl Galt, U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia. The event provided an exclusive opportunity for AmCham members to hear updates on the progress of the trade and commerce relationship between the U.S. and Mongolia. After hearing from our keynote speaker, the audience, consisting of over 40 AmCham members, had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session.
Deputy Assistant Secretary Santillo spoke on matters covering the position and proposed actions of the Department of Commerce in advancing the U.S.-Mongolia trade and commerce partnership; advocacy efforts and actions of the Department of Commerce in supporting U.S. companies and companies selling U.S. products in Mongolia; and areas of opportunity for Mongolian companies to increase trade with the United States.
During his keynote remarks, Deputy Assistant Secretary Santillo discussed how the Department of Commerce sees business opportunities in Mongolia. He noted, “People often say, but Mongolia is such a small market. That’s true; and because of the size of the market, you have the ability to make a difference.”
Mr. Santillo also provided updated information in regards to the progress being made through the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and stated that, “It is an important platform to advance U.S. business relations with the Asia region. For Mongolia, a full execution of the ratified Transparency Agreement is essential prior engaging into the TPP.”
