The Opportunity
AmCham Mongolia is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director of Policy and Advocacy to lead the organization’s policy engagement, government relations, and member advocacy activities.
This is a senior external-facing role requiring strong policy judgment, deep familiarity with Mongolia’s government and business environment, and the ability to work effectively with senior officials, business leaders, diplomats, and AmCham members. The Director will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, policy committees, government institutions, and international partners to identify issues affecting the business community and translate those priorities into effective advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Policy and Advocacy
Lead AmCham’s policy priorities, advocacy strategies, position papers, policy recommendations, and annual policy roadmap.
2. Government and Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain productive relationships with ministries, Parliament, regulatory agencies, and other key stakeholders; represent AmCham in consultations, working groups, and high-level forums.
3. Member and Committee Engagement
Lead and support policy committees, engage members on regulatory and policy challenges, and help advance member priorities through constructive advocacy.
4. Research, Analysis, and Communications
Produce and oversee clear, evidence-based policy analysis, briefings, and public-facing advocacy materials; strengthen AmCham as a trusted source on Mongolia’s business and investment environment.
5. U.S.–Mongolia Engagement
Support engagement with the U.S. Embassy, U.S. Government institutions, business organizations, and other international partners on issues affecting bilateral commercial relations.
Qualifications and Attributes
The successful candidate will ideally have:
• Significant experience in public policy, government relations, advocacy, regulatory affairs, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience engaging with Mongolian government ministries, the Parliament, regulatory authorities, or other public institutions.
• Strong knowledge of Mongolia’s political, regulatory, economic, and business environment.
• Experience advocating on behalf of a company, industry, business association, NGO, or other organization.
• Excellent professional spoken and written Mongolian and English.
• Strong policy writing, research, analytical, and briefing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior government officials, business executives, diplomats, and other high-level stakeholders.
• Strong organization, judgment, professionalism, discretion, and follow-through.
• Experience in Mongolia’s mining sector or mining-related policy and advocacy is a strong advantage; experience in energy, finance, technology, healthcare, investment, or trade is also desirable.
